How to Prepare for a Fantasy Football Draft

Now that you are already hooked in playing fantasy football, you and your online account should now be ready for the coming draft. You can either choose the snake or serpentine draft, or the auction draft depending on how much time and money you are willing to spend.

A snake or serpentine draft lets the last team from the previous season's result to make the first draft while the champion fantasy pros team picks last. Each of the teams take turns in picking a player. The order of choosing players reverses every round that is why it is called the snake draft. The first team to choose first on the first round will choose last on the second, first on the third, last on the fourth, and so on. The last team to choose on the first round will choose first on the second, last on the third, first on the fourth, and so on. The pattern will repeat until all roster spots have been filled and this could take up to the 17 or 18 rounds.

In an auction draft, each team was given a fixed amount in dollars so they could bid on a player or roster. Just like in any auction, players are nominated in any particular order and team owners will make a bid on the player. The team with the highest bid gets the player on his roster. Over the years, this type of draft has gained popularity as any team has the opportunity to pick the player he wants to be on the team. However, as long as you are willing to spend some cash, then you get the player that you like.

There are many ways to prepare for the draft where some fantasy experts websites allow a mock draft so people can practice a draft against other participants. A minimum of two mock drafts is often what the experts in fantasy football would advise you to do. They also provide a list of players by positions according to their forecasted ranks for the upcoming season.
